Four little maids, all in a row: Who do you have?

Four little maids, all in a row: Who do you have?

We had a wonderful debate over on Facebook this week all about who you choose as your Maid of Honour?  And I’d love to continue it here and get your input.

The question:  Who do you choose: your sister or your Best Friend?  And how do you tell the other person that they’re not your Maid of Honor?

This is a questions that haunted me for a long time before my wedding, having a ‘bestie’ who I adored and 4 sisters and only two Bridesmaids, it was a really hard decision for me and I didn’t like having to choose at all.

Who have you chosen/would you chose?  Join the debate and leave your comments below.  It’s a really important question because like me, some of us have a hard decision to make and hearts to break at the end of it and it can be so, terribly stressful.

The Luxury Wedding Show: A sneak peek into the elegant affair

The Luxury Wedding Show: A sneak peek into the elegant affair

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the elegant, stylish and exclusive Luxury Wedding show at the very posh and “ooh I want to go back again” Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire.

I was procrastinating about going that morning though because I’d been hit with a huge pang of guilt  - I’d spent very little time with my family in the last few weeks and I was craving it!  I missed my baby girl and was feeling like blogging was taking over and making me miss out on what I want most – her!  ’How could I take more time out for blogging?’ I pleaded with myself.  It was a dark moment for me but from that darkness came my starlight: “We can ALL go to the Weddingland Mummy because I like Hotels” my baby girl proclaimed!  And it was that moment that I realised that to keep doing this, it had to meld with my life and that included her!  So off we ALL went, all dressed up ready for the posh event.  And it was BRILLIANT!!

Top 5 wedding planning tips: What to do!

Top 5 wedding planning tips: What to do!

I wanted to do something a little differently this morning because I’ve spent three days in bed with nothing else to do but think.  And for me, that’s dangerous!  :) (Ask Hubby)!  One of the things I was thinking about was my Top 5 Wedding Planning tips.  If I had to narrow it down, what would they be?  And even when I narrowed it down to my top 5 wedding tips there was still one, very important tip that couldn’t be in the list but rather was the list because I personally think that no matter what your top 5 are, we all need this one and that is: Remember that the Top 5 Wedding Planning tips are a personal thing, each of us has our own priorities and therefore that list will change and that’s absolutely OK.

A unique Steampunk wedding

A unique Steampunk wedding

Those of you who were lucky enough to have read the first edition of the Unique Bride Magazine already would have had a sneak peek into the Steampunk wedding I’m showcasing today by superb photographer Braedon Flynn.

‘Steampunk Up Your Wedding’, my article  featured in this months Unique Bride Magazine highlights the elements of Steampunk that you can use in your wedding: accessories period pieces, clocks, parasols, goggles and loads of gizmos and gadgets, all the details that add the Steampunk flare and Kate and Jacob effortlessly included most of these in their wedding.  They clearly put a lot of effort into creating their story and as you’ll see from the pictures the detail is amazing!  I wish I was at this wedding!  Loaded with corsets, this is a wedding after my own heart! Ka pow!!!

Putting the ‘You’ in You-nique: The adventures of the new Unique Bride Magazine

Stop Press!  I interrupt my usual post for a very important message:

Alright already!  My legs are jiggling, my hands are doing a little freaky dance and I can’t sit still – Why?  Because I am going to pounce on the Postman the minute I see him for he will be holding the ‘Golden Ticket’, the one, the only periodical, paper printed glossy, uber sparkly Unique Bride Magazine.

This magazine is destined for great things because it is the only one that puts the You in You-nique!!!

For all those people who already have their copy, I am so envious!  I am still sitting here, eagerly anticipating the little red bicycle to pull into my driveway “Please Mr Postman hear my cries of anticipation and hurry up”.

This is what the happy cover will look like:

Unique wedding dresses: out is white and in is attitude

There’s a change in the air.  Something somewhere is starting to emerge.  It’s different, it’s creative and it’s captivating.  Can you feel it?

The wedding dress as we know it is making a stand!

No longer are we just seeing white, ivory or gentle shades of either in wedding dress designs today. No siree!  The humble wedding dress has and is getting a huge make over and designers everywhere are incorporating bold statements with reds (like Vera Wangs 2013 collection) and blacks (like Vera Wangs 2012 collection).  Even the traditional fairytale style wedding dress is getting sexier with the use of corsetry and unique designers are popping up all over the world designing unique wedding dresses.  Unusual styles incorporating a myriad of colours and bold patterns are creating the ‘new’ contemporary wedding dress.  And today’s design duo, Mother and Daughter team from KMK Designs are creating stunning designs from a fairytale dress with attitude, to more gothic inspired creations.

KMK Designs is mother daughter collaboration: Daughter Kaitlyn McClain and Mother Sheridyn McClain.

Combined we have over 35 years experience . We love creating quality alternative wear  for women who want to be confident and unique. We believe that clothing should make you feel as beautiful as you are no matter what society’s standard is. We create outfits from gorgeous bridal gowns to everyday wear from fabrics we hand pick to be comfortable and elegant. We love neo-Victorian, Lolita and Gothic. Our clothing can be characterized and a modern twist of Steampunk, Japanese lolita and a lot of fantastical creation.

The Imaginarium Apparel: Unique accessories inspired by Gothic, Cyber and Industrial subculture.

“What is a unique wedding blog?”  I’ve been asked that numerous times since starting Alice In Weddingland and every time I give the same answer (give or take a word or two) and this is how it goes:

Alice In Weddingland is a treasure trove bursting with distinctive, unique, creative ideas that break tradition: from the alternative, whimsical to the creative and of course, the unique!

And after my answer I normally get a reply that goes something like –  ”wow” or “what a great idea” or even a common one “what’s a blog?”.  But occasionally I get “oh you do gothic and boho stuff then” and that’s when I promptly and proudly answer, “Yes, and no.  Because alternative (sadly) has the reputation of only being boho or gothic but it is so much more than that.  The dictionary meaning of alternative is ‘non-traditional’ and that’s exactly what AIW is all about.  Stepping outside the boundaries of tradition and doing your wedding your way: doing things differently! It’s about being unique (more to come in a post soon).
