Engagement shoot: a hero and heroine’s adventures

Engagement shoot: a hero and heroine’s adventures

Ok, there is one very important thing you must do before you read on… that is,

… cue the Superman music!

Just imagine your hearing it: Da da da daaa daa, da da da daa daa, da da da daaaa, da da daaaa!  I know, not quite as good as the real thing, but, I do have an uber-cool engagement shoot riddled with character!

A girl who had a dream, a boy who couldn’t stop loving her and a photographer who created their superhero adventure.

This is what a supercool, superfun, superhero engagement shoot looks like. I love the bravery of Emma and Mark, stepping right outside the norm and going for it.  They wanted to do their engagement shoot their way and they broke tradition. {here it comes, you know what I say when people break tradition…”yay another frabjous frick’n frolic!!!”

I LOVE THIS SHOOT!!!! It’s so exciting and so not ‘normal’!!! They’ve done an Alice!

I love it when I open my eMail on my trusty, shiny, MacBook and there in front of me is an email about real people doing real things and this engagement shoot is another example of great engagement photo ideas.

This is the second engagement shoot {yes you heard me right}, the second {talk about lucky} for Benji & Fiona photographed by the irrepressible wedding photographer Dominc Clark III (the name says it all):  he’s cool, he has a wicked sense of humour and he’s an awesome photographer.

The couple… well, if you’ve missed it, they’re getting married in an old theatre! How absolutely frabjous is that!

Check out their first engagement photo ideas in their apocalyptic adventure engagement shoot and read more about the frabjous Dom Clark III in the previous post.

And here’s their Indie Rom Com full of colour, love and bubbles of laughter. Benji and Fiona are daring to be different and are injecting more fun into their wedding adventures by creating another legacy, that of their life as an engaged couple.

Engagement Shoot: An apocalyptic adventure

Engagement Shoot: An apocalyptic adventure

An engagement shoot or not? That is the question.

And I shout YES!!!

It excites me so much as to how brave, how adventurous couples are becoming with their wedding and breaking the traditions that surround ‘old style’ weddings and one of the latest trends is engagement shoots: photos of you two before the big day!

Once you’ve popped the big question or screamed out “YES” you can now have a hell of a lot of fun with a photographer.  And, couples are getting adventurous, creating their own mini fashion shoots by styling them and creating a story which then leads them and their prospective guests into Chapter Two, The Wedding!

And today I’ve got a frabjously adventurous couple on an apocalyptic, Mad Max style adventure by awesome photographer Dominic Clark.  It’s so cool!!!  Dom’s got a great edgy style to his photography which I love and he seamlessly creates visually interesting pieces of work.  He has flair and his photos are dramatic: they make you want to keep staring at them.

“They say people don’t believe in heroes anymore. Well, damn them! You and me, Max, we’re gonna give ‘em back their heroes!” Mad Max.

I am love, LovE, Lovin it!

A little from Dom:

I think I can say the only thing a photographer likes better than the satisfaction of having free reign on their own project, is having free reign on someone elses project.

To be given a brief and told ‘this is how we’d like it to be done‘ is a familiar feeling but doesn’t really give a person room to flex their creative muscles.  However, to be given a brief and told ‘run with it.  Show us what you can do!‘ can make a chaps brain fizz with excitement.

And that’s what happened to me…

Benji & Fiona are dear friends of mine and have been for many years.  I can’t tell you how pleases as punched I was when they announced their engagement and that they wanted me as their photographer!

The good news kept coming when several weeks later they called to tell me they had a venue and it was an old cinema in Bristol which still had theatre style seating and a large stage/screen area where the ceremony would be held.

Could I ask for anything more? …

…Only that they wanted several movie themed engagement shoots to put up around the cinema!

‘Which movies?’ I ask…these photos are from our first shoot together.  Their first shoot was a Mad Max/Apocalyptic style theme shoot: big boots, baron wastelands and fingerless gloves everywhere!

Being given creative freedom with a project like this was more than a person could ask for and working together I feel that we really created something memorable.

There is still loads yet to come so do keep your eye on Alice In Weddingland and on my website or Facebook page to see the rest of these shots and the other movie themed shoots we did.

This is a big project and I’m not done with it yet.

More on Alice In Weddingland from this awesome engagement shoot

I love Dom’s adventurous style photography.  It’s clear through this imagery and the photos on his website that he has a frabjous personality and if you haven’t seen his twitter photo, check it out – it screams fun!

I love engagement shoots and seeing those adventurous couples with frabjous engagement shoot ideas.  I love couples who dare to be different and I love photographers who can encapsulate their ideas and take them even further…

… and I’ve got the scoop on their adventure!  I am so privileged to get to watch Benji and Fiona tell their story right through to their wedding day!

Watch this space to see more from Dom and from Benji & Fiona.

If you had an adventurous engagement shoot or a unique/alternative wedding get in touch!  I’d love to hear about it.  Or tell me your engagement photo ideas.

Alice In Wonderland Engagement Shoot by Laura Brownlee

Having an engagement shoot is a super fabulous way to mark such a dreamy, romantic occasion.  You get to choose the location, the style, the dress {or costumes} and tell your story.  I love the idea and I think it’s a super-cool way to get used to being in front of the camera before the big day too.  You can experiment with ideas, poses and be as crazy as you like.

I love the idea, and I think it just might sweep Brides and Grooms 2Be by storm.

Today’s engagement shoot is super cute, ultra romantic, character full, is inspired by the frabjous Alice In Wonderland and even includes a little, gorgeous, fluffy rabbit icon smile Alice In Wonderland Engagement Shoot by Laura Brownlee Wedding Blog

Fancy a pre wedding photo shoot? Just you two and an awesome photographer

Fancy a pre wedding photo shoot? Just you two and an awesome photographer

What’s a pre wedding photo shoot?

Oooooh do I have a treat for all you romantics this morning.

If there is one thing I love most of all it’s romance and when I heard about this pre wedding photo shoot I was gasping with “ooh’s” and “ahh’s”.  I am such a wuss when it comes to romantic movies, I cry, I laugh and I love as hard as they do while I’m watching it… and yes, I wish I could wrinkle my nose a few times and create my Kiefer Sutherland hubby more into Richard Gere from Officer And A Gentleman and rescue me from a day of work by sweeping me in his arms.  {Sorry, off on a romantic tangent there}.

Pre wedding photo shoots are becoming very trendy.  It’s not about engagement shoots anymore.  Instead it’s getting dressed in all your glory and sharing an extraordinarily intimate moment with each other, without any other guests.  And as the wonderfully talented Ellie Marks shows below, with a great photographer who can come up with an ingenious idea for you, you two could share a moment like this.

… so, picture this… Breanna (an engineer that loves photography) meets Ryan (a biologist who loves to collect bugs) – two opposites meet and fall in love.  They have a common love of music which they incorporated into their wedding day and it was a beautiful wedding day too, but, BUT!  And this is a big, wonderful BUT!  When Breanna walked down the aisle towards Ryan, it wasn’t the first time they had seen each other in their wedding outfits.

‘Say what!!!’ I hear you say…

Some time before the big day a pre wedding shoot was held icon smile Fancy a pre wedding photo shoot? Just you two and an awesome photographer Wedding Blog

Alone and in a beautiful field, before the big day, Breanna stood behind one side of the door and Ryan on the other, both ecstatic with anticipation, excited at the prospect that they were breaking tradition and were going to see each other BEFORE the big day.  And then they peeked behind the door…

See how this amazing, adorable, grab-a-tissue kind of romantic story unfolded below.

The idea behind the creative genius that is the door in the middle of a field is by Photographer Ellie Marks.  Her idea was to create Breanna and Ryan’s ‘first look’ at each other just as exciting as they would on their wedding day, had it been the ‘first look’.

“It was so magical to see them stand on each side of the door without seeing each other.  But when they did lay eyes on each other you could clearly see just how happy they were to share that moment alone with one another in the middle of a beautiful field.”

Right, where’s my tissues?

The couple are gorgeous and the photography is stunning but the idea that Photographer Ellie Marks came up with just blew me away and has to be the most romantic thing I have heard in some time.  I love the idea of a pre wedding shoot, just the two of you, alone seeing each other for the first time all dressed up for each other. Tradition, tradition, tradition – it’s changing and you guys are helping create some divine ideas for Brides and Grooms to come.

So I say, let your wedding last more than just one day and think about having a pre wedding photo shoot.
