The traditional wedding cake seems to be far from what it traditionally was: the white encrusted royally iced statue has instead become a work of art.  But I am not a fan or royal icing and so for me what mattered most was the inside: the outside was more of an attraction than an edible slice of heaven.  However, not any more.  For those like me who don’t like royal icing feast your eyes (and tastebuds) on these stunning, extremely yummy buttercream works of art!

The history of the wedding cake started from great, and dare I say it whimsical beginnings, but it’s now thankfully an icon of creativity, culinary exquisite and matrimony and the latest trend in unique wedding cake design is to defy all boundaries that existed and break the mould {I had to say it } by designing imaginative creations that match the Bride and Grooms style – and I’m excited about it!

The Mad Hatters Tea Party: Unique wedding favours

How could I resist a post all about tea favours?  For an obsessed tea addict like moi this would be the perfect favour at my wedding.  I would have a little tea pot filled to the brim with leaf tea on each table setting.  Each little tea pot would have a different type of tea so all the guests could sniff away happily at the tables.

Gone are the daggy pink, white and blue almonds which hung around for so many years adorning wedding tables {mine included} and in are edible and non-edible unique creations that you give away instead.  But I have to admit, I am a lover of the idea of keeping it edible or drinkable and if you’re the same, now you can get tea favours! {I’m doing my dance of joy right now}.

I absolutely love baking!!! If I need the headspace or mental reflection on anything, it’s baking that I turn to.  I’m rubbish at cooking without a cookbook but adore baking; biscuits, desserts, pies and of course cakes! I consider myself a pretty good at home baker and when I stick my Sophie-Dahl-esq attitude on, I can do a mean home-made bread.  My collection of cookbooks must number 60 something now {I am a bit of a collector} but the one thing I have struggled to find is really good baking books.  And now I’ve found them.

My personal chat with Marco Pierre White…

A little while ago I had the pleasure of taking my Mum-In-Law to Marco Pierre White’s Grand Opening of his  restaurant Wheelers.  And, not only did I have the pleasure of eating his gastronomique food but I also had a personal ten minute chat with him {I know, a whole ten minutes} discussing Alice In Weddingland, my inspiration and the history of food.

And it was really interesting!  Marco Pierre White, I have to tell you is the sweetest, most interesting man: nothing like the F Word character.  He has so many stories to tell and is extremely knowledgable (as you can imagine) on food and I found it all so extraordinarily interesting.

Marco Pierre White really loves to chat!!!  And amongst the things we chatted about, was the history of the wedding cake which took me by surprise.
