Have you moved house recently?  I haven’t moved in ten years.  In fact the last time I moved I moved countries, from Australia to the UK, but for some reason, now that I’m a full time working Mum this move has become more horrendous, more cumbersome and more ahhh than oooh than my full move from Australia, and we’re only going a few streets away

And yesterday, amongst the myriad of phone calls to broadband providers, telephone and other utility companies to ensure we don’t arrive in our new pad today and huddle around a lounge room camp fire, our broadband disappeared – what luck.  It’s funny how priorities come into play when things like that happen and I was more concerned that I wouldn’t be able to show you todays gorgeous Love The Dress shoot than I was about packing the rest of the house.

And although we are still, as I type, running like Tweedledum and Tweedledee around the house packing – some miracle has granted me my broadband back.

So it is with pleasure I introduce you to the beautifully classical Love The Dress shoot by Teri Vincent Photography.

A little about the shoot from Teri:

I was so interested to see what Eastbourne seafront properly looked like at sunrise, as i can only just see it in the distance from my bedroom window usually, so when Kerry approached me to cover her ‘Dress Shoot’ I already had the idea of when and where in my head! The only issue was how early she was willing to start. Luckly for me Kerry was sold on the idea immediately and we planned it for a freezing morning in April. I love to involve and consider light as a major part of all my shoots so we were lucky that the sun did eventually break through the early clouds and bathe the beach in an stunning orange glow. Simply styled with some vintage looking, dusky pink roses and matching balloons, perfect to go with Kerry’s black and ivory colour palette.

For Kerry the ‘Dress Shoot’ has given her dress another outing and made her feel special and weddingy all over again. Next time we’ll get hubby Ian involved, if he’s not too camera shy. There’s just never enough time on a Brides Wedding day to really theme a shoot and take time to celebrate the beauty of the Bride, so why not book a seperate ‘Dress Shoot’, its always great to get dressed up again and feel special and beautiful, although for poor Kerry that was at 4am on a sunday morning, but I always believe the tricky ones are usually the best…!

What I love about this shoot is its simplicity!  Through the use of a stunning but simple location this shoot highlights what is most important, the Bride and her details and is complemented beautifully by the colours of the backdrop.  This is a classical, feminine Love The Dress shoot:  the flowers are beautiful, the dress is stunning and her shrug, oooh, it just looks fabulous!

Happily Ever After: A Snow White wedding photo shoot

In one of the most fairytale like countries in the world a photo shoot took place.  Complete with a stunning silk red cape, a beautiful white dress and a shiny red apple this fairytale shoot comes to life in the heart of a Vancouver forest!  This is the story of a contemporary Snow White Bride, photographed by the frabjous Whitney Lane Photography.

The drama created by this stunning red coat is so eye catching that it makes the photo jump to life!

This shoot took place in the same forest that they film the tv show ‘Once Upon a Time’. 

“In the heart of the rainforest in Deep Cove British Columbia, we brought our fairy tale inspired wedding to life. Inspired by the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White we used red velvet cupcakes,with lace holders, and candy apples to bring these stories to life. We used gold leaf on the bride`s eyes for a dramatic makeup effect and tied that into the cake pop`s as well”.

This is a stunning example of how you can incorporate ideas from your favourite theme or movies or even fairytales to create your wedding style.  Using those elements that stand out, helps to create the mood and set the scene for your big day.

This is a stunning shoot in a stunning location! But then again, I am biased, I do love Canada!

Alice In Wonderland photo shoot: An elegant Alice

Oooh I love an Alice inspired wedding or photo shoot and today’s stunner is a good-n!!  The shoot was coordinated by the very talented Simply Modern Weddings with photography by the frabjous Kim Le Photography.

Today’s Alice is elegant, loves reading and adores Chanel.

Four little maids, all in a row: Who do you have?

We had a wonderful debate over on Facebook this week all about who you choose as your Maid of Honour?  And I’d love to continue it here and get your input.

The question:  Who do you choose: your sister or your Best Friend?  And how do you tell the other person that they’re not your Maid of Honor?

This is a questions that haunted me for a long time before my wedding, having a ‘bestie’ who I adored and 4 sisters and only two Bridesmaids, it was a really hard decision for me and I didn’t like having to choose at all.

Unique wedding dresses: out is white and in is attitude

There’s a change in the air.  Something somewhere is starting to emerge.  It’s different, it’s creative and it’s captivating.  Can you feel it?

The wedding dress as we know it is making a stand!

No longer are we just seeing white, ivory or gentle shades of either in wedding dress designs today. No siree!  The humble wedding dress has and is getting a huge make over and designers everywhere are incorporating bold statements with reds (like Vera Wangs 2013 collection) and blacks (like Vera Wangs 2012 collection).  Even the traditional fairytale style wedding dress is getting sexier with the use of corsetry and unique designers are popping up all over the world designing unique wedding dresses.  Unusual styles incorporating a myriad of colours and bold patterns are creating the ‘new’ contemporary wedding dress.  And today’s design duo, Mother and Daughter team from KMK Designs are creating stunning designs from a fairytale dress with attitude, to more gothic inspired creations.

“What is a unique wedding blog?”  I’ve been asked that numerous times since starting Alice In Weddingland and every time I give the same answer (give or take a word or two) and this is how it goes:

And after my answer I normally get a reply that goes something like –  ”wow” or “what a great idea” or even a common one “what’s a blog?”.  But occasionally I get “oh you do gothic and boho stuff then” and that’s when I promptly and proudly answer, “Yes, and no.  Because alternative (sadly) has the reputation of only being boho or gothic but it is so much more than that.  The dictionary meaning of alternative is ‘non-traditional’ and that’s exactly what AIW is all about.  Stepping outside the boundaries of tradition and doing your wedding your way: doing things differently! It’s about being unique (more to come in a post soon).
